On 13–15 May 2026, Astana IT University hosted the international 2026 IEEE Smart Information Systems and Technologies Conference (IEEE SIST 2026). The conference featured important events dedicated to the development of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, the strengthening of international scientific cooperation, and the creation of new opportunities for researchers in Kazakhstan.
Researchers and master’s students from the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics named after Academician Ye.N. Amirgaliyev of the Institute of Information and Computational Technologies took part in the conference. For the representatives of IICT, participation in this event provided an important opportunity to exchange scientific experience, establish professional contacts, and become acquainted with IEEE international initiatives in engineering, information technologies, artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and digital systems.
During the conference, special attention was given to the official opening of the IEEE Kazakhstan Section, which represents an important step in strengthening Kazakhstan’s scientific and technological ecosystem. IEEE brings together leading researchers, universities, and industry representatives worldwide, providing access to international scientific communities, professional development opportunities, prestigious journals, and flagship conferences.
A key meeting was held with the participation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, representatives of the IEEE Region 8 leadership, including Dusanka Boskovic, Ljupco Karadzinov, and Andrejs Romanovs, as well as the Rector of Astana IT University, Altair Akhmetov. The meeting focused on IEEE opportunities, prospective initiatives, and directions for future collaboration.
In addition, on 13 May 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the IEEE Kazakhstan Section and the IEEE Ukraine Section. The agreement aims to promote joint conferences, knowledge exchange, collaborative events, and the establishment of the IEEE Kazakhstan–Ukraine Joint Coordination Committee to coordinate further cooperation.
The participation of IICT researchers and master’s students in IEEE SIST 2026 contributes to the expansion of international scientific cooperation, the enhancement of academic activity among young researchers, and the strengthening of the Institute’s position in the global scientific and educational community.
In addition, a meeting with professors from Nazarbayev University (NU) and international scholars was held during the conference to discuss current research directions, prospects for joint studies, and opportunities for further academic collaboration.
